Cellulite,
edematous-fibrosclerotic panniculopathy in medical terms,
is a problem that affects 8 women out of 10.
Even slim and very young women can be affected
since it is a problem linked mainly to the female hormone, oestrogen.
We will therefore try to understand something more about cellulite and pinpoint the causes that result in the
formation of those unsightly fat pads found on hips and thighs, so that we can choose the right remedies. We can divide the enemies of our perfect physical shape into three categories:
PRIMARY:genetic predisposition linked to problems of venous circulation, Oestrogens, female hormones responsible for water retention and venous stasis.
SECONDARY:stages in life, periods in which the oestrogens increase, such as during pregnancy and the days
before menstruation.
AGGRAVATING: lifestyle, incorrect diet sedentary lifestyle, posture, Clothing, stress smoking

The very fact of being a woman
is in itself a natural predisposition to cellulite.
Men in fact, even if obese, rarely suffer from cellulite.
Problems of venous circulation promote its formation. In fact, the first stage of cellulite is linked to an alteration in the
blood circulation of the lower limbs. When the veins lose tone and elasticity the circulation slows down and as a result there is a reduction in the blood
supply and oxygenation in the tissues. The cells and capillaries, to compensate for the reduced availability of nutrients,
increase the permeability of their membrane, making it abnormally thin.
Even the smallest injury can break this very fragile membrane and cause liquids
to escape. These liquids infiltrate the adipose tissue and disrupt the operations
of exchange between the inside and outside (homeostasis). As time passes real nodules are formed, which are at times painful to the touch.
As a result the oedematous state of the adipose tissues further slows down the microcirculation, thereby increasing the stagnation of liquids.
It is extremely important to restore correct blood circulation to permit the
reabsorption of fats, drain stagnant liquids and purify the body of toxins.

• Unfortunately there is no magic formula for eliminating cellulite
quickly... the causes are too many.
• But we can do simple things every day to fight the battle on various
fronts and achieve satisfying and long-lasting results.
• Begin with the little things, learning healthy habits that are good
for you.

The type of clothing you wear belongs to the “aggravating” category of the causes of
cellulite, WHY?
Clothes that are too tight block the circulation and prevent regular oxygenation of the
tissues.
If worn for long periods they promote the loss of elasticity and tone.
Avoid, therefore, wearing very tight trousers especially if you lead a sedentary life, and
do not stay sitting for too long because the sitting position coupled with crossed legs
tend to compress the veins, causing the legs to swel.
Get up from time to time – just a few steps are sufficient to get the lower limbs moving
and restart the circulation.
Very high heels, higher than 5 cm, block venous and lymphatic return. It’s better to use
them only on special occasions, avoiding however wearing them for an entire day.
Choosing clothing that respects the vital functions of our body should be part of a correct
lifestyle. It makes us feel more in harmony with ourselves and not obliged to hold a
compensatory posture, which could cause more serious problems later on.

Changing your dietary habits to a more balanced and detoxifying diet is an essential step towards preventing and beating the
problem of cellulite.
If cellulite causes water retention in the tissues, enemy number one of this alteration is SALT.
The first rule is to reduce your intake of SODIUM (found in table salt, stock cubes, in preserves and sauces), because sodium
causes the stagnation of liquids and swells the tissues.
Use alternatives such as THYME, BAY,
PARSLEY, BASIL and ONION
to season your food and avoid excessive absorption of salt.
There are instead other foods that are excellent allies in the fight against cellulite. They are all foods that combat water
retention, and are rich in mineral salts and vitamins, potassium and fibre, which promote diuresis.
Therefore, eat as much FENNEL, ENDIVE,
CELERY, ARTICHOKES, ASPARAGUS,
CARROTS, ORANGES, KIWI,
APRICOTS, GRAPEFRUIT, PEACHES,
PEAS, LENTILS, ONIONS
(especially if consumed raw) and POTATOES as
you like.
The increase in your fibre intake will also accelerate the intestinal transit time and reduce the absorption of sugars and fats.
BLUEBERRIES and other BERRIES deserve a special mention since they are rich in substances with vasoprotective and
anti-inflammatory actions (anthocyans) and so are also useful allies against cellulite.
Try as well to consume large quantities of fruit with high percentages
of water such as WATERMELONS, MELONS, STRAWBERRIES, and those
rich in potassium such as BANANAS, APRICOTS,
PINEAPPLE, BLACKCURRANTS and
CHERRIES.
Fruit and vegetables contain vitamin C which has strong antioxidant power. They also satisfy the appetite with less calories
than other foods.
NO to excessive amounts of coffee and smoking,
which have a vasoconstricting action and restrict the microcirculatory
system.
NO to chocolate, fried foods and alcoholic
drinks, which overload the liver stopping it from performing
its purifying action.
IMPORTANT: the ideal
amount of water* to drink each day is at least one and a half
litres; this will promote the physiological function of the
kidneys, which act as natural filters.
*this means the amount of free water + the quantity of water contained in ingested foods.

Inactive people can never achieve great results in their battle against cellulite
because “movement is renewal”.
You don’t need to be an experienced athlete; just 30 minutes
a day are enough to improve oxygenation of the tissues, tone
the muscles and stimulate circulation. Choose the right physical
exercise, preferring AEROBICS, SWIMMING,
CYCLING or CYCLETTE, and gymnastics,
but don’t forget that even a simple WALK gives our natural “VENOUS
PUMP” a workout.
Walking gives blood a push upwards, preventing it from stagnating.

Learn to give yourself a massage: your hands and the heat they produce are a precious tool for making cosmetic products
more effective.
Start low down and with circular movements work your way upwards along your thigh pressing lightly with your fingertips.
Persist on localized fat pads, making “kneading” movements over these areas to dissolve the fat.
Perform a light, circular massage on your stomach in a clockwise direction following the natural path of the colon. In this way
you promote not only intestinal function, but you also assist absorption of the product applied.
Choose only effective, safe and quality cosmetic products, preferably containing natural active ingredients.
A good, specially formulated line of cosmetics will help you to eradicate unsightly fat pads, combat the “orange peel” effect,
make the tissues more compact and achieve a smooth and toned look.
